Did your baby’s umbilical cord get cut right away or did you wait until the cord turned white?

I’m not sure if it makes any difference, but I’m just curious because we’re talking about this in my Mommy group and I didn’t even know people waited. All of mine were cut no more than a minute or so after birth. Some girls were saying their doctor had them wait five minutes. Some girls are saying the doctor had them wait 15 minutes but did anyone else wait a minute like mine 😭😭 ugh, there’s just so much to learn! It’s like every day they tell me to do this when you’re in labor, ask your doctor to do that, don’t do this and blah blah blah. Why can’t I just have my baby without any preference or problems? Why do I have to remember to ask to do things a certain way? I mean, we want the best for our little bundle of joy but things should just be standard across the board in hospitals 😭😭 all hospitals should practice everything the same

Because do I need to wait until the cord is white? I never even heard about that like no one told me about this and I’ve had three other kids so far so like every single day I’m having to learn something new and it’s just so much and I feel like I missed out and doing something wrong being out of the loop on everything.
@TurtlePink it's not wrong but there's more research these days. It's increases the baby's blood volume and iron and it gets stuffed with other nutrients it wouldn't get if you cut the cord early.

She will be fine no matter how they cut it. She sure wont remember and good chance you wont either.

Ive never heard of waiting to cut it. What was the justification they gave to wait? If you look at nature ....animals dont wait.

@samueltyler2 Yes, I did a little research on the topic. There has actually been quite a lot of scientific research done about it. It does help the baby to leave it connected even for just a few minutes.

@swirlie i’m sorry about that. You’re not the first one or the only one who has gotten upset.

I do it to everybody actually but I’m not ignoring anybody. It’s just I don’t write replies based off of that. Usually I respond if I have time or if they ask me a question or if I need to explain something to them. If you want me to engage with you on a post , ask a question in your comment.

But I do read the information in the comments because it’s insightful and you can learn a lot from people on here it doesn’t mean you have to engage with them, but I at least give them an emoji reaction so that they know that I read their comment. And usually that reaction is always the compassion one. I don’t know why I use it. I guess I just think it’s so sweet of you that you took time out of your day to leave a comment. That’s usually why I give everybody that reaction. Sorry I’m so weird. But I hope that clears some things up for you

And to be truthful, at the time you wrote this, I had only responded to one person out of 4 people. You was not the only one who didn’t get responded to.

The pros and cons of delayed clamping has been discussed and debated for decades.
@samueltyler2 why am I just now learning about it?

@TurtlePink medicine is funny that way. Things seem to surface from time to time. I read journals and say, we knew that 20+ years ago!
