Gun free zones are kill zones.

Court ruled they are there to protect property and the elite, not us.

@GeistInTheMachine must be it. I wonder how much discretion individual police departments actually have as far as how they deploy their patrols, to where, and for what.

They have to meet their quota

I've been asking this for years.
To be fair though, I hear the same response over and over from people when I have asked thos IRL and online that "schools aren't a place for police ". Which shootings aside, I think is insane. Of course there should always be a police car at every school proetectin children and staff from all kinds of things.
It just makes sense to always have an officer or three at every school, mall, and mass transite station. Not necessarily all tacted out wandering the halls, but hanging out unseen just in case.

@Eternity Also to be fair. I think part of the monster has been created by us... how often have you heard people complain "where are the police?" over pretty trivial and pointless shit that are little more than annoyances?
Someone ran a four way stop sign with no other cars..."where are the police?"
Kids lighting off firecrackers...
"Where are the police?"
Two drunks willingly fighting each other over some chick..
"Where are the police?"
As a society I kinda also think we need to learn and deal with some of these annoyances instead of always asking "where are the police?" And "why isn't there a law?" and allow them to actually focus on true crimes and safety. Instead we as whole have asked for this group of armed babysitters and wonder why we have such a problem.
