My ex girlfriend used to smoke drugs (marijuana I think) but I was (and still am) too scared to try it in case I get caught/go crazy.

I got liberated in 1968 and have been working with all the issues ever since
but I would never say it was wrong

I wouldn't have the insights I have now and in fact I wouldn't have survived the BS all around me, and the BS is worse now
but I know I am not the cause of my own suffering and neither is anyone else
I am HUMANE now and know stuff now and you would do well to have me for a friend
and I will never tell anyone what to do on any level.

It's not as harmful as others. The high doesn't last beyond 30-60 minutes, so if you ever do try it, for your own peace of mind, try it with a sober friend who you can trust.
And no, you're not lame because of this reason. Smoking up is a personal choice- and as long as you don't act like a pussy around your friends who do smoke up, you're good to go.
