What's a basic skill that everyone should learn at some point?

How about cooking? I mean it doesn't even have to be something fancy. Just simple meals, like spaghetti and meatballs 🤷‍♂️.

Sign language for the deaf.
Something you could add to the school curriculum and be fluent in from a young age.
