How true is this? There are friends in life but on!y competitors in business.

My own experience is that it's not really true.

I'm sure there are many cutthroat business environments where friendships are an illusion, corporate profits are the sole unifying aim, and each person is out for themselves possibly at the expense of others.

But I've seen and heard of plenty of cases that clash with that image. Friends at different companies (perhaps former work colleagues) may meet and talk things over, perhaps even ask favors, in a way that isn't strictly best for their companies. Even when acting as perfect representatives of their employers, people may still make real friends (with colleagues or competitors), e.g. by talking business over dinner. I think the human element is still generally present in the corporate world.
