No, not after all of that time and money spent of getting your hair, nails, and makeup done. And of course no one wants a stain on their wedding dress.
Sorry to answer this one so late, but just now saw it.

Indeed! We didn’t do the cake smashing thing (I would have killed him), nor did we allow tapping of the glassware. If anyone wanted us to kiss, they had to get up as a table and sing a song with “love” in the lyrics. Let’s just say that it was very entertaining, and the banquet hall appreciated their glassware not being ruined. @cherokeepatti

nope.. cake should be eaten.. not wasted.. yes of course they could lick it off each other but it's a much less efficient way of eating and bits get stuck in places you don't want cake.. so eat the cake first then eat each other if you want

I had to think about this ... My first thoughts were out trends to take the piss out of the whole ceremony and what it stands for, then I thought but why not inject some fun?
Second thoughts were it's wasteful of food, then I remembered festivals in Italy where they have huge tomatoe fights.
I'm settling for does it really matter?

@ozgirl512 doesnt matter. But if u promise u will not smear cake. Keep your promise. Seen too many that didnt keep the promise. Ended up divorced also.

@JustLikeGreta in my thinking they either both have to agreed already or both be confident enough to not take it seriously and just enjoy the moment ...

That type of horseplay has gotten old. Here they are dressed up and smearing each other with cake while dozens or hundreds of guests watch.

No. They should shoot full cakes at each other from either end of a soccer field, from trebuchets which each built at their pre-wedding parties with the help of friends. The bride & groom stand on platforms, positioned randomly along the ends, and the groomsmen & bridesmaids adjust the trebuchets. The assault ends when one of the two is covered in cake and/or frosting on at least 50% of their fronts.
The winner...well, the stakes are up for negotiation...

No. I hate that. Don’t ruin pretty makeup and a lovely dress.

It's fine. They'll be smearing worse things later.
quitwhendone · M
No. They should wait until they get in bed.

I think it is a ridiculous tradition!
SW-User
As opposed to maple syrup?
SW-User
Yeah. And lick it off.
SW-User
They must
JustLikeGreta · F
@SW-User to me its rude and disrespectful.
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
It’s kind of tradition...
Why not...it’s fun!
Weddings are too choreographed nowadays anyway!

I just think weddings are so planned and expensive why not do something slightly off script that’s all. It’s really a phenomenal waste of money in the end. My fav weddings are small and informal...just my opinion @JustLikeGreta
Yes but only a little.
Little is fun, lots is disrespectful. It's all part of it.

My husband & I did it at the rehearsal but I wasn’t aware we were going to until I had blue frosting in my hair. I was probably too aggressive because when I retaliated he fell to the floor 🤦🏻♀️😅
