Mine was on October, 1972, as a PBX (switchboard) receptionist. At that time, it was $5.60 an hour.

Happy B-Day late. At 17, I had just graduated high school and it was a full-time, 8-hour job. I had to go downtown and train for the job (1 day there), then start the next morning. I was there 18 months, then the company closed up.

Other than things like mowing lawns and babysitting....I was a counselor at a boy's summer camp during the summers when I was 17 and 18. It was in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, and I was one of the hiking counselors. To this day, I love hiking and camping in the woods.

I babysat, too, and had been since I was 11. My sister had two little ones ( 5 and 2). My next door neighbor had two toddlers. Most of the neighbors had small children, so that was good for pocket money.
Lifeguard for a private swimming club back in the day. Worked there for about 6 straight summers in high school and college.

I had two jobs at 16, in 1976: I played the piano for ballet classes at a dance school and was a church organist at a Baptist Church over in the Mission. I forget how much I was paid, but it seemed like a lot at the time.

My first job was SPOILED. I was a “sales associate” that never dealt with customers at a typewriter store. My coworker and I cleaned typewriters and watched movies for 4 hours after school ended every weekday. Got paid $15 an hour and also got free food.

@ShaythePanTransMan Lucky you! 😆

@latinbutterfly Yeah, I miss that damn job. My boss just suddenly left on family emergency and still hasn’t come back :/
Tim Hortons in 2002. Minumum wage at that time I believe was 8.25 an hour. It's at 14 dollars an hour now I think.

I was a loader for a place that sold trees, plants and all sorts of things like that. I basically got paid to work out 6 hours a day each summer I was there. Not a bad way to stay in shape.

@MartinTheFirst That's kind of how first jobs go.
