not all archeology digs up graves, but um yeah.

SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Archaeologists tell important things about our past through remains, in the here and now we already see cultures enough to know, back 1000 years ago we have no way of telling. Archaeology is a great thing, it's better those get preserved at museums then getting grave robbed by some religious cult because religions destroy monuments and the like occasionally.

@SatanBurger Lmao, nice edit.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@MartinTheFirst The edit was because I feel like it's detracting from the main point of what I said. I mainly agree with you by the way, it's the first example that I thought of and could have re-worded it differently. I wasn't meaning to "put shade" on anyone, I was literally thinking at the time of the sites destroyed by the Islamic brotherhood in very recent times so that's what I put 🤷‍♀️

If I was thinking about past Governments I probably would have used a different example, not everything is meant to purposely hurt others but if that's the way it comes across, I'm sorry for that.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@SatanBurger I didn't think you were trying to hurt anyone. I still believe it was worded like that due to your bias against religion though. It's good that you see what I mean.
In all fairness record keeping and locations have gotten a lot better.. digging up 1000 yr old graves won’t be necessary in the future

I think it's never about respecting the dead, it's more about not to mess up with the living. After 1000 years, no one is alive to get upset when their loved ones been digged out.

I have always wondered if there is a period of time that has to pass that academics don't consider it grave desacration.

@Pherick it's always a grave, no matter how much time passes

You're funny
I’m glad that at least some artifacts are being returned to the countries where they originated. And I don’t doubt that eventually someone will be digging up the crypts and mausoleums where the wealthy are being laid to rest now.
