Did your Mother ever leave a Plate of dinner in the oven for when your Father came home?

I do not ever remember my Father sitting down to Tea, (Dinner) with us.
He always had meetings to go to, being high up in the Union Movement. After the Meetings it was to the local pub until closing time.
Mum/Nan always saved his Tea, covered in foil, in the oven. Got thrown out every morning.
One of the reasons my Father died early with cirrhosis. He ate very little and drank to excess every night.

No, they were separated, I have no memory of ever eating a family meal with him when I was a child. His job he worked from 2pm-11pm, and when I was young enough that they were still together, he worked all day Saturday and Sunday, so in my memory it's like they were separated all of my life as I've no family memories of him at all.

So sad. I am curious as what line of work you are in.

That is even more sad. I think children of absent parents either choose to be totally unlike them or exactly like them. Which have you become?
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Artistworkingalone Until the age of 39 I became my Father. A severe drunk, with cirrhosis at age 30. Drank for another 9 years before stopping drinking.
Now I am so different. Never will drink again, never will even enter a hotel. I find pleasure and most importantly solace out in the bush.
Camping and being with nature. Far from the maddening crowd

@Gusman so you chose not to be him. Good for you.
They always had dinner together. We all did. That’s just the way it was.

it was kind of her to do so every night despite of him refusing to eat.

@Miram Traditionalists. Feed the family. It was what was expected in their mind and upbringing.
