I have a friend that is held hostage. His ex won’t let him talk to anyone but her cuz she has his kids. What would you call this?

How does she know who he talks to?

I don't know this whole story so I cannot say much, but it sounds to me like she is using the kids to control him and that is not only wrong it is illegal. Sounds like it should be settled in family court.
