What’s your “Back in my day, we…(both)

…would go blackberry picking and Granma would make blackberry pies and serve them with whipped cream
dragonfly46 · F Best Comment
Back in my day, we would play outside until the streetlights came on.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@dragonfly46 Times change so much. There were good times, "Back in My Day"
@Gusman A simpler time.

Back in my day we ate what we were given or we didn't eat.
@PrivateHell Omg!! My mom gave me mine cold the next morning for breakfast after sitting at the table for hours the day before! I still hate liver and onions.
@dragonfly46 same here. Even smelling it cooking makes me sick
@Gusman I don't think it's wrong like @SW-User said it teaches kids not to waste food. It also stops them from expecting special treatment and makes them open to trying new things. Fixing a kid a peanutbutter and jelly at eleven pm because they didn't eat their dinner is ludicrous. I'll toss that bad boy in the fridge for them to enjoy for breakfast.

Sounds delightful!
Back in my day, we played outside until we were forced to go in for dinner.

@Gusman I have a wild Blackberry bush in my yard, one of the sweetest parts of summer
Sad they sprayed them for you guys. :(
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Peaceful There was a bit of an outcry about it. But Council got their way😥
Peaceful · F
@Gusman they always seem to :(

My back in the day was water balloon fights using my mom's bra as a slingshot 🤣🤣🤣
SW-User

SW-User

Back in my day we would have to fight our siblings to use the landline phone to talk to our friends
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User We had a phone but only the adults were allowed to use it.
SW-User
@Gusman Our phone was in the kitchen so even when us kids used it there was zero privacy
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User Not the best, for sure.
SW-User
Back in my day we didn't have the internet and we survived just fine.
SW-User

Love4All · 56-60, F
We played hide n seek, tag and merry go round outside. And made mud pies.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Love4All
Memories light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories, of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another, for the way we were

Me and the older kids next door used to sneak their dads rifles and air rifle for me and we’d go rabbit shooting. Some of our rabbits ended up great meals, but if their livers had spots they were in edible and we had to leave them behind. The main purpose was to hunt and harvest.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User I never done any hunting in Tassie. Only went fishing every weekend down Strahan, Macquarie Harbour, Braddon River, Gordon River, Franklin River Pieman River, Trial Harbour. Brilliant childhood, adolescence.

I was living the semi rural life up until I was 12, our backyards backed onto the Yarra river (at the start of it, the nit so filthy part.) also a National Park that I used to get lost for hours in and run home crying scared if I saw a snake lol.@Gusman
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User LOL. We used to catch Tiger Snakes by the tail. If only we knew how dangerous they were. Though, even to this day I am not scared of snakes. I respect them more than I did as a kid. Only 7 months ago I was sitting on a log deep in the forest when a Tiger Snake slithered over my boot. I simply stayed still and let is get about it's business.
Uncle · 46-50, M
...we had a black and white TV with only three stations to receive. And no computer in the house.
@Uncle "Hey boy, turn it to channel 8." My dad every evening.
Uncle · 46-50, M
@PrivateHell That must have been a lovely experience, having eight channels... ;)
@Uncle actually we had 4, they were just spread out across the dial... 2, 6, 8 and 23. Lol
We didn't have downloadable music. We had to go to a store and steal the CDs ourselves.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@PrivateHell 😮 I collected(bought) so many LP's and singles in my youth. Think I had about 150 LP's and 200 singles. Got none now except the original Bat out of Hell album
@Gusman used to have a cassette tape collection so large it practically needed it's own room.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@PrivateHell For some reason we did go overboard. Most of my collection sat there gathering dust.Only a few very special ones got played. That is why I eventually sold them all. I was not playing them.Let someone else enjoy them
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Back in my day, we would catch falling leaves
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Jackaloftheazuresand Who caught the most won?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Gusman I was alone the first time then we just did it to pass the time
SW-User
PC's were for upper class and rich/wealthy people.
SW-User
We had dial-up internet and had to get off if someone had to use the phone.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User Weird hey
SW-User
@Gusman Yep...
SW-User
We used to pick blackberries too. And my mom would make cobbler and jelly.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User Mums and Grandmums are great🙂
We don't have mobile phone, so when we plan to hang out it must be very precise
SW-User
And traded Pokemon cards
Uncle · 46-50, M
@SW-User When that became a thing I had already finished school... :D
SW-User
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User 50 years later and I still love Blackberries. 🙂
SW-User
@Gusman They're still very much loved by people all over the world
