Do you like city life, or do you like living rural?

I grew up in rural place. I always appreciated the nature, but as a gay youth, I concluded that it wasn't the place for me (because of the rural minded people, I thought).
I sought out life in the city when I was 20, and spend 10 years there. I experienced a lot in those years, relationships and otherwise.. and at first, I liked city life. But I quickly grew overwhelmed by it all.. the traffic, the crowds, the noise, the pollution, the jobs I was working, drama, heartache, betrayal from some of the people I involved myself with.. drugs. A whole lot of drugs. =/ What a toxic state I was in. I can't completely blame it on my environment, but none of it was helping.

I moved back to rural Charlotte country (southern NB) three years back. I work a job that I enjoy, and live in a beautiful little place surrounded by nature. And I am happy here. Both with the terrain and the people. I do keep my distance, I suppose.. but at the same time, I feel like this is my home and that I belong here.

Life in the country side is good, and what I need now. =)

I grew up and lived in cities for most of my life, it was only after I retired that we had the option of choosing somewhere rural to live. My work was only available in largish population centres so I didn't have a choice.

Living out here, I like the peace and quiet and social cohesion and lack of crime, and the connection to the cycles of nature, and the beauty. I like that we know everyone; a city is a society of strangers.

I miss the variety of things to do in cities, and the convenience and infrastructure, and the anonymity of the crowd is freeing in its own way.

I found European cities were often claustrophobic and sometimes had panic attacks in large crowds, my Maritimer brain isn't set up for that.

I like both. I grew up in the city but my parents lived a rural life and every so often I visit where they're from. I love both probably as I get older I'll prefer the rural life more. Time seems to move much slower there and things just feel relaxing.

@5thApprentice I agree, that's what I love about it.
It would be nice just to like living. But its an uphill struggle just to survive.
