Was grades important to your family?
They sure were here. They made me study constantly, but thanks to that I was #3 in the student rank of the whole entire school!

Not grades per se, but effort. If I didn't put effort in my schoolwork, I was punished. If I was lazy, I was punished. If I worked hard and still got a not-so-good grade I was supported and encouraged.
