Apparently I'm racist.

A couple of people at work were talking in the break room and a lady was saying how sad that a neighbor of hers won't let his family eat during the day. I said it's Ramadan and she gives me this look. I just say that I think Islam is an interesting religion. She tells me that, because I'm white (Like her, I might add) that that's condescending and a little racist.

Damn. The KKK ain’t got nothing on you.

But on a serious note this isn’t even surprising. People are quick to jump at someones throat when they acknowledge what most people find uncomfortable for example mentioning black people? I don’t know if it’s more prevalent in America so correct me if i’m wrong but from what i’ve observed, it seems as though mentioning black when referring to someones race sparks an uncomfortable reaction, almost like it’s controversial or a no-go area for those that are white, which seems to be what she did in this situation.
Although, her reaction and reasoning was pretty dumb to say the least considering there are white muslims too...

@NickiHijab You know, just a few days ago I was talking with my brother about how a lot of the issues around Muslims today mirror those of the black community in the past. :?

@UndeadPrivateer I mean.. you’re not wrong. You see muslims suffering on a daily basis. Aside from the casual islamophobia, the suffering in war torn countries all tend to be muslim. The irony in the argument of terrorism is that the biggest victims of terrorism are muslims themselves. Yet the same people are demonised for it. Blindly following the same old narrative is just so tiring and dumb.

@NickiHijab Indeed. We were specifically drawing comparison with the current climate on islamophobia and the Back-to-Africa movement of the 1800s and early 1900s. That "they should all just go to/stay in their own country and fix the problems if they're so bad."

@NickiHijab Hard to say. I live in New Orleans and we're all pretty laid back, so black is still ok here.

I think the cornerstone of her comment was just that I knew something she didn't and had to be silenced.
