If you could time travel, would you rather go into the past or the future?

The future. When you really look at history, the past is pretty terrible place that just got better with time.

@ViciDraco well no. It's just that you learn about the bad things so you don't repeat those mistakes. There were also lots of great things.

The past was an objectively more violent time. Death rates from violence were significantly higher. Death rates from disease were significantly higher. Medical technology was not as good at dealing with impairments. Religion held more authority and was more oppressive. Minority groups in pretty much any area of the world faced more discrimination. Travel was hard. Communication was hard. Food production was less efficient. I'd wager nine out of ten aspects (at least) of life are superior today than they were a hundred years ago, let alone four hundred or more.

These are all problems a lone time traveller would not be able to fix.

@ViciDraco there's a difference between being worse than now and being terrible.
As i said to someone else, post doesn't mention living there, you could just observe, imagine watching the first transatlantic phonecall, or watching the football match mid ww1

But why, when you could see the first city on mars? Or the first person to live to be 200 years old?

@ViciDraco because then you'd spend you're whole life when you return to the present thinking nothing was ever impressive.
Or the world could be a disaster zone in the future and youd spend your life waiting for that to happen, paranoid, thats no way to live
