Why do we close our eyes when we pray, cry, kiss or dream?

I have no idea why people close their eyes to pray or cry, but dreaming only happens when asleep and you sleep with your eyes closed so that's an easy one, and crying usually involves the eyes being open or else your tear ducts are blocked.
