What is the most intents experience you have had camping?

Deadcutie · 18-21, F Best Comment
Camping in Minnesota 4 years ago.. my mom is talking with my dad on a pay phone , I'm standing right next to her and my sisters. A trashbin a few yards away on other side of road. 2 bears come out of the woods and casually walk right by us, on the way to look for food in the trash.. if I wasn't to busy shitting my pants, I could of reached out and touched one.
We did not know what to do.. run? Stand still? Yell? 10 minutes pass before they bore with the trash.. look at us as if we are stupid and lazily move off into the woods...

@Deadcutie Did you learn what to do if you encounter a black bear?
Deadcutie · 18-21, F
@Ynotisay well staying still and praying seemed to work... my mom was so cool under pressure, can u imagine what went through her mind? Keeping 3 daughters from absolutely panicking and calm? While she was scared herself...

@Deadcutie Right on Mom. :)
Might be something you want to look up and learn what to do for next time. Black bears really don't want anything to do with people. They're not even big meat eaters. Usually just yelling will drive them away. But if people freak out and run they can sometimes see that as prey behavior. So staying still was the right call AND you got a good story out of it.

Ha Pedro! You are talking here to a former experienced boyscout, who still loves camping(in better weather conditions now), tents stay only steady in a few inches of mud, and nothing beats the feeling of walking back to your campsite with your roll of toiletpaper under your arm after you did the serious business on the toilets. Walking like a boss like 'hey I did it, it was me', man that is a great feeling.

I've had quite a few when backpacking. Mostly with weather. I remember going hypothermic on a solo trip in the Sierra with no one around for miles. Felt pretty alone on that one. But mostly the intensity is driven by the beauty.

@Ynotisay Appreciated :)
My camping experience is limited. I messed around in a tent. It was intents. LOL. And a posse of raccoons attacked the picnic table and cooler in the middle of the night. It was loud and raucous and terrifying. Nothing smells like food cooked over an open fire. And the marshmellows? If there were any, would have been divine. Where's my best answer, Brit? *looks expectant*
@pedrohedgerow Well, in the middle of the night, upon awakening suddenly to crashes and to mayhem, those raccoons SEEMED as large as bears.

...second place... :)
@pedrohedgerow I will accept that gracefully and with honour. Thank you. Love you too. :)

Of course I did 😉 👍🏻
Do you mean intense or “in tents” ? 😁
Seriously, my family had a motor home (like a Winnebago but a bit nicer) and every summer we would go someplace for adventures. One year we went to Lake MacKerrischer, in my state; had beautiful camping areas, picnic tables, fire pits. It was one of our best trips.
