When we were kids we would find little frogs near the sloughs we were haying in the summer time. They were what we called prairie peepers. Their mating call was a sure sign that spring was here. I was fascinated by them and amazed at how they would be in full throat one minute seeking a mate and then the whole slough would go silent if I made a noise. Incredible little creatures.
