@KiwiBird @Stephie Agreed. The Auld Mug was put up in competition initially in 1851 by the Royal Yacht Squadron. The yacht America put forth by the New York Yacht Club won that inaugural competition and the mug (nicknamed "America's Cup" after the yacht) has not returned victorious to the British Isles since.
Now whether the UK can claim the victory of Australia II because of Australia's origins is sketchy at best. Everyone in the sailing world considers that win to be purely from down under.
Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke famously declared on live television after Australia II won the 1983 America's Cup: "Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum!"
