Does Being a Member of a Gym

Give a person more motivation to work out / stay in shape ?

I've tried a few times now to put together a routine at home, and I aways seem to kind of just fall out of it.
I thought about signing up to a Planet Fitness or something but I'm not sure if it will help my motivation or just be a waste of money ?

Does anyone know what the minimum contract length is at PF ?

I think it’s monthly. I find a membership far less expensive than buying home equipment.
Good luck

@Cantsayno Thanks

I don't think planet fitness is a good gym. I liked Vasa or 24 hour fitness.

Depends on a number of things.

Expense varies. And is dependent on your area.

Your personal needs. Not everyone needs a sauna. Or a personal trainer.

What you expect socially. Serious exercise doesn't need a social aspect. In fact that could hinder a serious exercise routine.

BTW I once had to move gym equipment. The employees wouldn't do it. That says a whole lot about certain gyms. Not all are the same though.

@DeWayfarer Thank you for the thoughts.
I'm not looking for social aspects.
Just an increased sense/feeling of motivation that helps me maintain the habit.
I won't spend a ton of money wherever I go if I decide to go.

My plan is to perhaps get a yearlong membership for now with a personal trainer for the first 3 months to help me figure out a routine and set some goals

I've found that very helpful when you find a place where others train too and go and train there.
Right now, there is a stadium nearby..
I opt for parks where others are training too.
So what I am saying here is, I don't know about your area, but maybe apart from the gym, or alongside it, you can also find a public space for some days.

@Boeing That's a good idea.
Thanks

@HikingMan yes and it works both ways too, you get energy and motivation and you give that too to others passing by..:)

I've never belonged to any gym apart from trying to learn to swim with a small swimming-club for several months; but it's a general point that belonging to any special-interest club will usually motivate you, as well having its social aspect.

A sports club or gymnasium would work by mutual encouragement.
