Why do most people make a big thing out of getting married and spending lots of money on a wedding?

For what?
My wedding was a memorable happy day surrounded by friends and family having a great time eating good food, copious amounts of drink in the luxury of a country house. It’s one of the happiest days of my life.

Now if you’re too much of a bean counter to experience it that’s your call…
@DazzaTheHutt I would rather spend money on more important things.
@Whatawebsite Everyone has different priorities

It is the most asinine tradition I have ever seen. I insisted on a small church, limited guests, a quick reception, and a long honeymoon.

Weddings are expensive. It's a pretty important day too.

@HannahSky Weddings are only expensive if you make them that way. Our wedding cost us the price of the licence. In fact we made a slight profit on the day because of the few wedding presents we got.

If you insist on having hundreds of guests at a huge wedding reception and a dress that costs thousands but will never be worn again then it will be expensive.

It was still an important day, and we were together for forty years.
