The boy done good

I hate the whole contrived, sanitised, commercialised festival. The complete antithesis of love in my book. Most of all for the unease it generates between lovers who are not completely certain of the expectations and level of expenditure required.

After 25 years, my wife and I are able to ignore Valentines day quite comfortably. But I still had a niggling doubt in the back of my mind about our teenage daughter and her friend-who-is-a-boy-but-definitely-not-her-boyfriend.

On Wednesday I caved in and gave the lad a £20 note along with an explicit warning that he will never cross our threshold again if he failed to do the right thing.

On Friday after school he showed up with his presents tastefully wrapped up in a plastic carrier bag. Chucked the parcel in her general direction and then shuffled about a bit looking deeply unhappy 😅

So our girl got a pack of 20 reusable cupcake moulds and a kilo of her favourite marshmallows. Which doesn't sound terribly romantic, but these were things she actually wanted and it shows that a young man is capable of listening and empathy 🤗

I'm not sure she was completely smitten by this romantic gesture, but he was at least permitted to hang around for a couple of hours while they finished their homework.

I think they are planning a bike ride for next week 😊

Awwwww! 💖💖💖 I'm super happy your precious daughter had some lovely Valentines gifts bless her heart! 😍😍😍 And of course that boy is a true star for sure! 💫💫💫
What thoughtful gifts! Did you think he would have got her nothing? Well done.

@PoetryNEmotion He is shy and awkward, as any 15 year old boy is entitled to be, and my daughter can be a bit overwhelming at times. I know he's got a good heart, just needs some gentle encouragement 🙂

Weird. I thought the standard Valentine's gift eas an anonymous card.

He wants her to make him some cupcakes.

You all should make a backyard fire and toast some marshmallows.

What's the lifespan of flowers and a box of chocolates?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MarineBob Not as long as a set of silicon cup cake moulds, I imagine 🙂
Tough crowd! How old are they?
@SunshineGirl I remember being painfully awkward at that age. So kudos to him!

@Guardian He's mildly terrified of me as well, which doesn't help the awkwardness!

@SunshineGirl I'm terrified of my mother-in-law but love her to death

Sounds like teenage puppy love.
