Every first Tuesday of the month here in the Chicago metro area...

They test the tornado warning sirens. They've been doing it since I was a little kid (probably before I was even born) and it's nothing new, but I always have to check the weather when they do it in case it's not a drill. Lol.

Is that like the girl that cried wolf though? If there is an actual tornado, would anyone respond to the alarm?

@JamesBugman if that alarm sounds any day other than the 1st of the month it’s not a drill
@AthrillatheHunt What happens if the Tornado doesn't care about the testing day and comes at the same time?

@JamesBugman there will always be a chance a real tornado occurs at the exact minute the drill alarm goes off . But that’s 1 minute out of a calendar month , so the odds are slim to none . Tornados also mostly occur in the PM. I’d imagine the drill alarm is in the AM

@JamesBugman 35 years ago a tornado hit a suburb here and there wasn't a warning until it was too late, so the sirens didn't go off in time to let everyone know to take cover. It could happen.

@JamesBugman We get those alerts too often. They're ignored unless there is a green glow with a freight train sound.
