Tuesday evening musings.

Back in the mid to late 90's, I came across this televion pastor named Rod Parsley.now at the time, he was holding these crusades in various cities here in the states. There were a couple other pastors doing the same thing. I didn't realize it until later, but all these pastors were preaching the "prosperity gospel."

Around 1998 or so, I bought a bible for my wife. It was the "Woman thou art loosed" bible by T.D. Jakes. Since that time, my wife has taken that bible with her to a couple conferences in Canada, and elsewhere.she has even had it with her on a couple previous occasions when she has been in the hospital. Now that bible is starting to come apart. I shared with her the other day that I wish I had a bible that I had used as much as she has hers.

I guess one of the biggest problems I have with certain twlevision pastors is that they take verses out of context. When I read, I ask questions like who is writing this? to whom is it bein writen to? What are the circumstances surrounding what is bein writen? And i just don't see a lot of that in most of today's telwvision pastors. They all aeem to have their own agenda.

You are very correct in your observations. What you are referring to is the weaponization of selected verses in the Bible. One thing that can often be gained from weaponizing a verse in the Bible is that you can turn it to your financial advantage for financial gain aka get more followers and get more donations which leads to a more lavish lifestyle.

I've never understood that "Prosperity Gospel." Jesus says it is easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. But preachers say God wants you to be rich. I think they just want your money so they don't have to work at Burger King.
I'm not religious. But I like the King James Bible. It sounds like Shakespeare. All the modern versions sound dumbed down in comparison.

$$$$$$$$$$$$ is the answer to your questions concerning those pastors.
