Asking for more sorrow

As an Englishman I am not accustomed to the "right to carry guns", though "carrying guns" is slowly growing in the UK. But to defend the right to carry arms is only promoting the right to murder isn't it?
Its is getting like the chicken and the egg, where someone has to accept responsibility for the acts of their fellow countrymen, men who kill for no reason.
It remind me of the song by the "Boomtown Rats" … "I don't like Mondays" was given as the only reason for a killings many years ago.

It seems there are strong arguments for and against, but I am happy to be in the UK where I feel safer.

Just because you defend yourself with a firearm, does not mean that you are looking to kill people. Only maim them. Except that is never truly anyones goal when you ask them about it. They are going to kill the assholes.
Perpetuating violent fear is what I believe gun ownership does.
I know a woman who lives in a very quiet, quaint neighborhood that does not have issues with violence or crime. She sleeps with a loaded handgun under her pillow every night, you know, just in case.

@TwiddlerofThumbs I understand, but having a gun leaves the possibility of misuse.
@Uncfred I think gun ownership is a terrible idea, don't believe for a moment I am all for it. Most of the people I know who own guns also believe Obama was a Muslim ( And that somehow makes him vile and evil if were). I've seen too many toddlers yank moms gun out of her purse. Granted this total is 3, but that's too many. i knew kids who died from accidental gun shot woulds. I know one person who successfully and reasonable defended themselves with a firearm while someone was attempting to stab them.
The us against them arguments hold a lot of emotional weight, and I understand that the fear is real. If everyone was reasonable, sensible and level headed it would not be a problem, but people are rarely those things and certainly not those things when they think someone is out to get them.

@TwiddlerofThumbs The sad part of it is, we in the UK tend to follow US trends, and this is one trend that is slowly growing. It is mainly in "gang" culture, but it will eventually become as regular as in the US.
@Uncfred People want equal footing with criminals which makes sense until you get into the reality of what it comes with it, which is as you said, asking for more sorrow.

@Uncfred So does owning a car, truck or knife.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@TwiddlerofThumbs Agreement is something positive, but time will be tell the outcome of that law.
@nudistsueaz I've known no one to kill themselves with a knife. I've known no one who intentionally killed their family with a vehicle.
@nudistsueaz In fact, I didn't buy my car for protections. I didn't buy knives with the intent of defending myself and my family in case someone tries to break in and hurt us. You do get that argument is silly, right?
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@TwiddlerofThumbs I have known several to kill themselves with a car. That's more common than many know.
@nudistsueaz with a car or with the alcohol they ingested first?
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@nudistsueaz Suicide or accidental death is a different kettle of fish, I am talking about MURDER.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@TwiddlerofThumbs My point is crazy people will use anything they can. Some have used poison in public areas. They will always find a way to hurt or kill others, if that's their intent.
@nudistsueaz Exactly, but why hand a society something even more deadly when currently it is not an openly available option?
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@Uncfred Me too
