Fireworks: A Proposed Compromise

So it seems that opinions on fireworks are very strongly divided.

On the one side, we have people who have just never grown out of the love of bright sparkly things with loud sounds.

On the other side, we've got those tree hugging dirt worshipers who point out the environmental impact of large explosions and huge amounts of sulfur being released into the air. (Please know that when I call y'all treat hugging dirt worshipers, I mean it in the best way possible. I love you guys.) Plus there's the people who point out that it's kind of cruel to subject people with war-related PTSD to lots of war-like noises.

In addition, more than 13,000 people were injured this year by mishandling fireworks, including a little 12-year-old boy who thought it would be fun to hold a mortar in his hand. People also manage to set large areas on fire by being stupid with fireworks.

Well, as I said, I have a proposal. For those of us who still love fireworks, I suggest using a large paved area like a parking lot, or even a big RV park. Or better still, a large indoor stadium with lots of ventilation to waft the sulfur gases through an air filter. Charge families a modest price for admission, have a professional fireworks display, and allow a reasonable amount of fireworks to be brought in by families, with restrictions on aerial fireworks such as mortars.

That way, the people who want to get it out of their systems can without making your neighborhood sound like one of the countries we're currently invading.
