How would you react if you see a person flying a Confederate flag on the 4th of July?

@beermeplease I used to see a lot of Confederate flags here in Alberta not that long ago. It stood as a sign against tyranny the kind Alberta sees coming from Ottawa.

@beermeplease Canada was meant to be a confederation. Ottawa wants to make it into a federation. There is nothing new under the sun. The confederate flag is very appropriate to the situation in Canada.

@beermeplease No the federates in the north were also slave owners. The American civil was a money/power grab. Slavery served as an excuse.

@beermeplease Yup. Even Abe Lincoln said he didn't care about slavery shortly before the war. I'm not defending slavery. I am simply pointing out the facts as was known at the time.

@hippyjoe1955 whatever happened in that day and age is a little irrelevant to me as i wasn't a part of it...but to support it now is. we need to move forward with that shit.

@beermeplease So why are you so bent out of shape over a flag now. A flag you don't even know the meaning of? Much like the symbolism of the Canadian flag leaves out most of Canada. The sugar maples only grow in a very small region of Canada. So why is the maple leaf our national symbol?

@hippyjoe1955 i thought i appeared calm...not bent out of shape...i think others here who commented knew what the confederate flag stood for...we have maple trees in bc maybe not in alberta...but who cares...deal with it...you're probably the only canadian i know that's pissed off at our flag. have a grand 'ol time at the stampede roping a calf.

@hippyjoe1955 and kids today are taught in school that it's ok to be sexualy active with the opposite sex before they even reach sexual maturity.... (not homophobic people if you read this...just understand my point)

@beermeplease I agree there is lots of nonsense being taught in school. Sadly the whole confederate thing has taken off in recent years. Ever watch the Dukes of Hazard? Their General Lee car was iconic. Suddenly General Lee has become so vile his statue must be removed. Best not to get too tangled up in contemporary sensibilities.

@beermeplease It wasn't my favourite show but it does give a bit of perspective on how suddenly the confederate flag is evil incarnate while the stars and stripes are being waved over troops committing genocide (Vietnam) or the slaughter in Ukraine. I'll take the confeds at least they had no delusions of being a world power. They simply wanted to be left to their own affairs. "I'll take care of my business and you take care of yours."
