Taking a Knee” is NOT by definition disrespectful. Soldiers “Take a Knee” to show respect for fallen comrades. People kneel in Church to pray and show respect.

Disrespect would be continuing to sit while the National Anthem is played.

Those that stand and then “Take a Knee,” both show respect and are making a statement that they feel needs to be make.

@Gangstress Alright, that makes MORE sense. But what "statement" are the knee-takers making other than disrespect for the country?
@Gangstress As another poster pointed out, didn’t that coach just get to take a knee on the sports field ?

@laotzu92 they are taking the knee to show solidarity for womens rights.
The premier league (uk) take the knee before every football match. Racist fans hurking abuse. Its a hate crime by law. By all the team taking a knee shows solidarity for the players suffering abuse

@Gangstress I genuflect on the rare occasions i'm in church. What the premier league players do is irrelevant to Americans.
It may be constitutionally protected in the USA to "take a knee" during the pledge of allegiance but it is not respectful.

@laotzu92 is it not an American tradition to stand or kneel for whatever you believe in?

Do people not join the service to protect the rights of the people. That includes the right to peaceful assembly and protest. The people have the right to stand or not as it pertains to their own decisions so long as it does not infringe upon the rights of another.
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
@Gangstress I already said it is a constitutionally protected activity. One can even sit or not recite the Pledge. So is a coach saying a prayer after a football game.
Real kneeling is perfectly appropriate in the right context.

@laotzu92 and who are you to judge what is real kneeling and not?
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
@Soph03 see my comment to your prior comment, please.
Soph03 · 18-21, F
@laotzu92 you didn't say it
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@laotzu92 the context in this post is the correct time for kneeling
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
@Gangstress "Taking a knee" as epitomized by Colin K is not the same as kneeling. Sorry.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@laotzu92 both defined as the same technique. either or
laotzu92 · 70-79, M
@Gangstress right you are if you say you are (title of a Pirandello play which seems to capture this)
