My daughter went to pride Friday and Saturday with her best friends family, and she bought this flag.
She got home an hour ago, and we are about to hang it up in her room. This flag made me question her sexuality. She's always been openly supportive of the gay community. I told her I will not judge her and she can love whoever she wants to, but I asked if she thought she might be into girls? She said, "no. But I love this flag, that is why I bought it. I also love my gay friends and I know that they were born that way. They can't help it and they are awesome no matter what. That is the truth." I love this sweet angel, so much. She makes me feel lucky to be her mom, everyday.
omg... now we have to worry about others questioning our sexuality? i thought that was best done for one's self. anyway, we're all born the way we are born, not just lgbt. the flag can mean whatever the owner wants it to mean.
@Candace i understand what you meant was that you were just wondering how she was maturing and evolving as she's growing up. i'm not sure why i focused on the phrasing. i can tell you love your daughter very much, and that you would no matter what. i think you're both very lucky to have each other. so many mother/daughter relationships are contentious, but you two seem to be really close, and that's a super-good thing. i read more of this thread, and i see she's just 14. you definitely should be talking to her about all sorts of things and helping her to become the woman she will become in just four more short years. cherish every moment!
@Candace I lie about my age sometimes, I'm 23 but I tell the bus driver I'm 17 so I can get on for half price. 18 and under only have to pay one dollar for a bus ride, over 18 is two dollars.
That's good that she's supportive of gays. I'm not homosexual myself but I think gay people get too much shit, people calling them names and saying they shouldn't get married and stuff. Who cares what they do with their sex life, so long as they're not hurting anyone.
@Candace I'm not religious, I got turned off of it at a young age, having grown up in a community of Muslim extremists. You wouldn't believe how many times I've been told I deserve to be hanged. But when it really comes down to it, I haven't got anything against anyone who isn't harming others. You're Christian, you're Muslim, you're Hindu, you're gay or straight, you're Black or White or Mexican, I don't care so long as you're not trying to hurt people. You're living your life and doing what you do, who am I to tell you it's wrong.
