Summing up the year and a golden vision for the next

2023 was a year of unrestrained excess of spending, December was no different. 2024 however will see a controlling of such spending.

Each month there is around $600 left over from necessities

Out of that 600 no more than half can be spent on books

Unless i go without for x amount of months and add up them for larger orders

THIS month's purchases which amounted to around 320: (meaning just the orders on December 1st)

1. The last 3 ESV Expository Commentary volumes covering Romans to Revelation
2. The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind - Mark A. Noll
3. The Gagging of God: Christianity Confronts Pluralism - D.A. Carson
4. Psalms, Volume 2 (The NIV Application Commentary) -- W. Dennis Tucker & Jamie A. Grant
5. Renewal Theology: Systematic Theology from a Charismatic Perspective -- J. Rodman Williams

I save money on books by loaning from my library frequently..I often have to renew each book twice lol.

@SW-User I do buy a book once in a while but being unemployed I can't often. I also loan new DVDs/movies at the library so its like a treat.

@Coralmist Good value a library offers, my local one is pretty pathetic, small town and stuff.
@Coralmist Not sure for you, but my local library offers streaming services through Kanopy/Hoopla. You may find that useful, I certainly have. I buy books I love, not that many recently with budgeting, but I also like supporting the library for how integral of a community service they provide. Just thought I'd share.

@SW-User You can often request a book or movie on their page/site and they will loan it out from surrounding libraries. That is what mine does..so I still get a good new selection. 🙂 (Pickup at my own library) Yours may as well.

@Coralmist Maybe, but nothing compares to the convenience of a kindle ... i live in Canada btw.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Oh cool are those streaming services for books or shows or?

@Coralmist One library near me loans out kindles..and laptops too! For 3 weeks..renewable as well for 6 weeks total. But not every library does it. Canada is cool ..I went to Montreal twice.
@Coralmist Kanopy is only for streaming movies/shows, but Hoopla lets you borrow anything from movies/shows, e-books, podcasts, music, and much more..... As I love film, I stick to movies..... if I want a book, I want it in hand as I love the feel of paper; just a strong preference... Sounds like your library offers that and more.

@thewindupbirdchronicles I never even thought about if they offered streaming movies or shows..thanks I will check!🪻 I'm a big movie buff.
@Coralmist We've both been to Montreal twice then. It's such a unique city. The culture of Quebec is different from much of the rest of Canada, but I'm glad you enjoyed.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Yes I wonder what other parts of Canada are like as well. I did enjoy Montreal..thanks 🙂
@Coralmist The French culture here is much more direct in being expressive. English Canada much more passive.... hard to explain in short words, but I remember being in NYC seeing a minor accident happen and watching with utter amusement how they were at arms together, and then within seconds laughing together saying, this is what insurance is for.... Reminded me of a scene I may see in Montreal.

We're all loving, caring and compassionate but English Canada is much more passive.

@thewindupbirdchronicles interesting. Come to Boston and you will definitely see more *expressive* 🫨😄
@Coralmist I've heard this about Bostonians, too..... And that accent, that accent..... It's born to be expressive. 😉🙃
