So, what's up with retail stores blatantly letting customer's shoplift..??

I can only imagine what Black Friday will be like..

I guess due to laws in some California cities they let it go if it’s under a certain amount. The people who pay for it are the customers because after inventory the losses are factored in to the price of the same things sold. Eventually those stores that are hit hard with shoplifting will go out of business because no one wants to pay sky-high prices for things. They can buy cheaper online or Amazon.

@cherokeepatti to prevent that i would ban returns unless its a high dollar item like $100 plus
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User well one reason WM gets so much business is that customers know that they can return items if they aren’t happy with them for some reason, most things anyway. So people might stop shopping there very much rather than be stuck with something that doesn’t fit or isn’t right for what they needed it for, like a rug or whatever.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti rug's are usually around 100 anyway well the good ones, plus banning returns will make customers shop in the store more and take their time still a win win

To be honest though... some stores (like CVS) just aren't equipped to protect themselves.

Would you be willing to step in front of somebody who could be armed to prevent $100 of merchandise going out the door? It's not like you're going to be rewarded for it.

@SW-User i was talking about the bigger items and the larger dollar amounts but its up to CVS to arm themselves better considering they are aware of the shoplifting issue that is on the rise 🤷‍♂️
Huge profit loss on taxes so they pay less to uncle Sam.
SW-User
@mondayschild2 still not right that's why things will keep getting more and more expensive
@SW-User No it's not right but they make a very good living off the backs of the poor.
SW-User
@mondayschild2 sad but true
carpediem · 61-69, M
Agreed. It's crazy. Some towns decriminalized shoplifting. That's why Walgreens is closing stores in San Francisco. "Organized retail crime".
carpediem · 61-69, M
@SW-User I'm with you. Wrong is just...wrong. And theft is wrong plain and simple.
SW-User
@carpediem just shows how fucked this country is its really sad..

@SW-User It is sad.

I did hear that a store in the USA (maybe Walmart , I don’t remember) don’t do anything about people stealing under a certain amount
SW-User
@Jenny1234 its ridiculous im talking about 1000s of dollars lost not the miniscule stuff
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@SW-User insanity. Do you know why they don’t do anything? Is it because everyone there had guns in their pockets?
SW-User
@Jenny1234 either its the store's policy or the employees are too dumbfounded to react or they call the cops way too late, its all crazy to me its like whats even the point of working
SW-User
As soon as it affects some fat cat, they'll do something about it. The cost gets redistributed to honest paycheck to paycheck people, so no one who can do anything about it cares.

@Stereoguy hmm..
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Stereoguy And what part of what I have stated, and has been reported, says anyone is encouraged to play video games all day? Will there be lazy slackers who take advantage, just as they do with existing unemployment and welfare programs? Of course. But so far the results have shown that the majority have used the opportunity to improve their lives, get education and training, gotten better jobs, started small businesses, all of which actually increased the tax base for the cities more than any money lost on the slackers.
