Take her shopping
GunFinger · F
You have a good reason to give a gift card. Send along some flowers and a birthday card of course.
Tumbleweed · F
Yes! They're the best I think because the receiver gets what they really want and saves you the headache of shopping for the perfect gift which may not be so perfect for them. When I give gift cards, I always include flowers or a candle or balloons, you get the point... 💕
Perfect!!!!

Gift certificates allow the receiver to use them for exactly what they want or need most. I think they’re a great idea, and her favorite flowers are a nice personal touch, as well.

gift cards are fine ! Go for it 👍🏻

Love them. Almost as flexible as cash, but somehow less "tacky" than simply handing over some money.
Yes... I agree with @GunFinger

Yup

I think a gift certificate is very appropriate in this case. :) you can always bring her a plant or something as well, if you want her to have something more then the gift certificate to enjoy more immediately.
NotMy1stRodeo · 56-60, M
That works or you could do lunch /or dinner out and shop for/buy the furniture together. Did something similar w my mom to pick plants for redoing a planting bed at her home for mother's day.

A gift card is a great idea.
Give her a large bunch of flowers as well. And a vase to suit?
Then it will not seem as if you are arriving empty handed.

A gift certificate is always good, and when you show up for her birthday, bring a bottle of wine or her favorite flowers.

I appreciate receiving gift certificates, and when I give them they seem to be appreciated.

i think for a sofa cash would be better in case they dont see anything they like at the store you pick
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Gift cards are fine. Be sure it is for a store they normally shop at.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring good point. someone gave my coworker's husband a gift card to the hunting store but the nearest one was over 100 miles from their home
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Get her a nice token of some sort — any little knick-knack will do — but have the gift certificate inside it for her.
SomeMichGuy · M
I think it is a great compromise, and you could offer to go shopping with her
Send a gift certificate and a bottle of whiskey. 🥰
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Ask her.
Not being funny but just ask her.

Better yet, give her something simple. A bouquet and a pic maybe. And add a part 2. Take her our for a mother-daughter bonding so you can have her pick what she wants and you pay.
Justafantasy · M
I'd say it's a good idea

How about cash.
