Trainwreck - Woodstock 99

This truly was a really horrible event, and it isn't for just one reason.

First off, I found it laughable that many on the event staff went to the original Woodstock and were expecting their nostalgic ivory tower dreams to be recreated and were upset it wasn't. "No! Don't Woodstock like that!!!!" Meanwhile rape and drugs were going on, pretty much like the first Woodstock, but they ignore all of that. They are upset that their nirvana moment is destroyed by 90's kids, but don't actually do anything to dissuade the things going on.

Second, I love how the men in charge have zero clue what is actually going on while their staff are facing actual dangerous situations by the concert goers being out of control. They kept telling the press that everything was going exactly as planned, and there had been no complications. Meanwhile, performers are doing their sets and getting the hell out of the area immediately after.

Third, all their "cost savings" meant that basically the 250,000 unhinged, drugged out, heat exhausted in the crowd were way beyond anything they had any right trying to control before it ever started.

Fourth, Jesus...people thought an amazing headliner was ending the event, and instead, they were given candles to light. And then become surprised when they burned everything down. Lol

The worst is that the frat boy culture was alive and well. One of the people interviewed said she talked to a woman who had been crowd surfing, and the woman said, "Well, I hate men now". Many of them were assaulted, their clothes removed, touched unwantedly, and there was zero security to stop it. A 14 yr old was raped in the back of a van. There were many minors there. They don't even know how many sexual assaults happened over the three days.

It was somewhat disappointing but not really surprising, having been in my 20's at the time this took place.
