The trouble with the NHS

Knowing a lot of people working in the NHS and been watching troubleshooters like Sir John Harvey-Jones and Gerry Robinson focuses during the past decades on the main problems, I still surprised that there's absolutely no reform to the health care system in Britain till date. The people working for and being cared for by the NHS deserve much better. The health systems in my own country, Germany or even France are a lot better.

No matter the NHS's issues, you don't want a system like the US. Look at the Germans, French and Singaporeans for suggestions.

@Crazywaterspring Did I mention the US system? It would be mere suggestions that will be needed. A whole reform, because otherwise it's going to go to pieces.

You definitely don't want what we have in the US!!!!!

@Rabbit420 I never claimed that we need more of those here.

The main problem is trying to fund expectations of a gilt-edged universal healthcare system from levels of taxation more suited to demand the 1990s. The troubleshooters know how to cut services and adapt to financial circumstances. Good luck to anyone who tries to negotiate the political impossibility demanded by the British electorate.

@SunshineGirl I'm sure that you're right to think that there's no support for a change to the universally free-at-the-point-of-use healthcare with no payment at point of use. That said, well, Brexit and Trump's second term did prove that people aren't that long term in their thinking. In Sir John Harvey-Jones's program my favourite moment was his utter astonishment, visiting an NHS hospital on a Friday afternoon, to find it closed. David Gilbert in his book ‘The Patient Revolution‘, asked “Could the solution to NHS problems be in the hands of the patients themselves?“. His ultimate conclusion was that the NHS must learn to listen to informed patients, many of whom are used to running large companies.

No system will please everybody
So far i don't have an issue with my coverage but that's because i bust my fucking ass to make sure i have the proper coverage & yes I've had health issues

@pdockal You're right but most European countries (except for Spain) have not an universally free-at-the-point-of-use healthcare. Somehow I think that paying something at point of use is indeed still useful. I pay five euros for a visit to my GP here in Belgium.
