Do you think Europe is transitioning to self-sufficiency in the face of Trump’s vitriol over costs

The whole of Europe is and will remain eternally grateful to the United States 🇺🇸 for eighty years of critical service in the face of Soviet aggression but the USA won the Cold War in 1992, with the demise of the Soviet Union, and the thirty years since then have been a buffer time for Europe to transition to self-sufficiency and a return to pre 1936 balances of power.

Our cousins in America have safeguarded the peace of the world, and we Europeans are proud to have worked with them in bringing a calmness to the world so that commerce has been able to thrive in many ways but President Trump has brought the buffer time to a close so America can enter a new era of peace and prosperity in the face of several not-so-lethal crises with the Islamists around the world.

Europe does have an existential threat now just as America does, but it’s not viewed by either bloc as a deep enough threat for America to stay engaged in Europe. Do you think this is a sensible strategy for the West to take?

I think as long as nato exists all countries in it will continue to defend each other. Hopefully it will stay a strong alliance.

MAGA has no sense of history. Europe has a long history of intra European war. Only NATO effectively put an end to that. Prior to it, the US eventually was drawn into 2 world wars. Since then the US stumbled into its own illegal wars. The US, according to many sources, does not spend over 3% of its GNP on defense!
