Energy crisis in Europe

It seems that Ukraine is at an advantage militarily right now, but what about the energy crisis in Europe? How is Europe going to navigate that?

Russia has cut off gas from the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which means that gas from Russia has now fallen by 89%.
I think the world will suffer more because of the Gas block. Russia want that to happen for Germany and Germany will suffer serious gas issues and their economy will show it. However, Germany and the world will remember never to be dependent on any one country for Gas of oil again and in time Germany will find new supplies or an alternative of energy. Nothing good will become of Putin and his evil game of war for Russian people. In my opinion, his actions are the prelude of war against the west

European 'leaders', both in most countries (Hungarian Orban may be the sole exception) and in the wretched EU are sold out to American interests and do not care about Europeans dying from cold or losing their jobs because factories must close. It is time for Europeans to revolt against them or admit we deserve our fate

@Cierzo Good response, and I tend to agree.

Electricity is the energy of the future this has just brought the end of gas forward a few years, Britain will be having Nuclear power stations with a life expectancy of 25 to 35 years, by that time renewable energy sources will be established, the writing is on the wall for Gas Russia should sell it whilst there is still a market .
SW-User
@senghenydd I agree that nuclear is a good (albeit controversial) alternative.

Because it is controversial, a lot of countries are reluctant to do it. The E.U hasn't pledged that it will become less dependent on Russian gas by going nuclear so there doesn't appear to be any alternatives in place. In April, Germany said they were shutting down their last remaining nuclear power plants, and that was two months *after* Russia's invasion and a depletion in gas from Russia. They've insisted on putting sanctions in place, knowing full well what the costs are...why they aren't at least trying to come up with viable alternatives is beyond me.

They could do fracking, but they went and banned that too 馃槀

@SW-User News sources from countries outside Western Europe has suggested Western Europe has bought sufficient stocks of LNG for the coming Winter, supplies has been purchased from the Middle East , this is good news obviously this news must be kept low key. Long term arrangements need to be put in place for future energy supplies.

When you buy from a dictatorship
It was bound to happen
CheekyBadgerM
Well I understand that they have been burning off what they aren't exporting which seems quite childish really.
SW-User
@CheekyBadger They don't really have much choice lol...otherwise they wouldn't be able to use gas for things considered essential and people would be going without 馃し馃徎鈥嶁檧锔廐owever, they really don't have any alternatives in terms of replacing it.

We got rid of Nazis , we will get rid of Russians .
Khenpal1M
@SW-User Nazi Germany was defeated by countries sticking together. If you fallow statements by General Ben Hodges on Russia -Ukraine war it will give better understanding .
SW-User
@Khenpal1 Duh, I know that.

we will get rid of Russians.

This is what I'm asking you to expound on.

@Khenpal1 You didn't get rid of nazis, they migrated to US and other countries. You got rid of a dictatorship though

Im not religious.. but there are stories in the bible about the end times that start with a war between russia and Germany. Of course the *country* names of the country are not the same but the areas referenced are. Its interesting to say the least.

@Coppercoil
there are stories in the bible about the end times that start with a war between russia and Germany
That is simply amazing. And which bible would that be? Are you referring to the collection of books known as the Old Testament, written/collected, thousands of years, before Russia and Germany existed, or the New Testament, written 1,500 years before Germany and Russia existed?

I dont think anyone needs to worry its all about money in the end and Russia needs it like the rest of us, back room deals will be made and the government's will just get the money back off the people
