Why don't we call millions and billions respectively "mega-Euro" (M€) and "giga-Euro" (G€)?

@HannibalAteMeOut One Deci-Euro would be ten cents.
One cent is a centi-euro, which is where the name comes from.
deci=1/10, centi=1/100
1 Centimeter = 1/100 m.
