I feel it was a decision that should never, ever have been put to a referendum.
The average person knows nothing about the agreements and treaties we were part of, or what impact ripping them up will have on us.
And people like Rees-Mogg who now tell us we may be worse off for 20 or 30 years never said anything like that during the campaign.
In case you're in any doubt, this older person voted remain.

I know a lot of older people see sense. And I have respect for their views. Because they understand more. But I feel somehow that leaving the EU has a lot to do with a lot about not liking people from other countries coming to live here. But why do people come to live here? Because it’s such a lovely place to live. I love the islands we live in. Why can we not share them? @TidyTimecheck

@LiliMountainGirl Yes, if they're honest, a lot of older people want to go back to the 1950s. Nostalgia can be very attractive and very dangerous.
There's also been a fundamental dishonesty in the leave campaign claiming EU membership meant we had to accept anyone and everyone who wants to live here. There were EU restrictions we *chose* not to enforce.

Ok. I know nothing about that. But I love the Polish children in my class. They are so hard working, I cannot see how we are going to be worse off because they are here. @TidyTimecheck

"We must ignore the results of a democratic election to protect democracy" is becoming a very common sentiment, it seems. You'll forgive me if I don't put my faith in people with that mentality.

And how many voted to stay in 1975? Why is that just discarded. If so will 2016 be discarded as irrelevant when your generation has died. @Sicarium

@LiliMountainGirl
And how many voted to stay in 1975?

It doesn't matter. That's not how elections work. You don't weigh the results of election A against election B to figure it out. Elections stand independent of one another. How is this something you don't understand?

Why is that just discarded. If so will 2016 be discarded as irrelevant when your generation has died.

It's discarded because it was 1975. There was another referendum. It was discarded for the exact same reason you want yet another referendum. You're playing (I hope) dumb, but you'd be perfectly happy to discard the results of 2016. You are whining about something that doesn't matter and something you would repeat given the opportunity.

So what is wronging with the people now? Because you are scared? @Sicarium

Your voice will count when you've learned enough about it to have a reasoned discussion. UK citizens have never voted to become members of the EU. Never, ever. What we voted for way back when even I was too young to vote was whether or not to become members of The Common Market... a conglomerate of European counties who's commercial entities wanted to be able to trade with each other more freely without all the hassle involved in selling goods to a host of other countries all with different import procedures and rates of duty. That commercial arrangement later became known as The European Economic Community - which was still not the "Political" union which it gradually transformed itself into. For 50 years UK citizens were forced to be members of something they had never signed up for and which I for one will be glad to see the back of.

When I am old enough. But the British Parliament says I am old enough. Are there any other tests? @ThePerfectUsername

I said learned enough - not old enough. @LiliMountainGirl
There's a world of difference between waltzing into a polling station to tick a box just because you can and actually researching whatever it is you're about to vote on to make sure you understand what it is you're about to try and influence.

The government won’t pay attention to us until it’s the least embarrassing thing for them to do 😔 but, the way brexit continues to mess everything up, the optimist in me says eventually theyll have to see reason. The pessimist in me reminds me that they haven’t the last 3 years so what’s going to change. I hope though, if the Greens and Lib Dem’s keep surging as they are, we might at least get our voices heard.
LiliMountainGirl · 22-25, F
I have been looking at Change UK. Conservatives and Labour working together to keep us in. @Pichu
