I Have Been to Europe

There has been so much talk of Brexit. But I have not only been to Europe. I live in Europe. I wake up each day in Europe. I am European.
In the 1970s the people who live in my islands voted to be in the EU. That was the first referendum. Those who now want to leave say we must respect the 2016 referendum and not have another one. Most of them must have voted to stay in whenever it was back then. Why can we not respect the wishes of the people in 197? Sorry the exact year escapes me.
And the vote in 2016 was so close. And obvious that younger people want to stay. Older people want to leave. Not everyone of course. But we are three years on. I was too young to vote last time. I am now. Does my voice not count?

Your voice will count when you've learned enough about it to have a reasoned discussion. UK citizens have never voted to become members of the EU. Never, ever. What we voted for way back when even I was too young to vote was whether or not to become members of The Common Market... a conglomerate of European counties who's commercial entities wanted to be able to trade with each other more freely without all the hassle involved in selling goods to a host of other countries all with different import procedures and rates of duty. That commercial arrangement later became known as The European Economic Community - which was still not the "Political" union which it gradually transformed itself into. For 50 years UK citizens were forced to be members of something they had never signed up for and which I for one will be glad to see the back of.

When I am old enough. But the British Parliament says I am old enough. Are there any other tests? @ThePerfectUsername

I said learned enough - not old enough. @LiliMountainGirl
There's a world of difference between waltzing into a polling station to tick a box just because you can and actually researching whatever it is you're about to vote on to make sure you understand what it is you're about to try and influence.
