I Have Been to Europe

There has been so much talk of Brexit. But I have not only been to Europe. I live in Europe. I wake up each day in Europe. I am European.
In the 1970s the people who live in my islands voted to be in the EU. That was the first referendum. Those who now want to leave say we must respect the 2016 referendum and not have another one. Most of them must have voted to stay in whenever it was back then. Why can we not respect the wishes of the people in 197? Sorry the exact year escapes me.
And the vote in 2016 was so close. And obvious that younger people want to stay. Older people want to leave. Not everyone of course. But we are three years on. I was too young to vote last time. I am now. Does my voice not count?

"We must ignore the results of a democratic election to protect democracy" is becoming a very common sentiment, it seems. You'll forgive me if I don't put my faith in people with that mentality.

So why can you not respect the 80 per cent of British people who voted to stay. So it’s ok to have a referendum if the last one wasn’t according to your wishes. I am so glad my country doesn’t usually rule by referendum. I wish they hadn’t this time. It has broken an otherwise successful country. @Sicarium

Because that is simply a lie. I don't respect any lies. I never will.

It is no way a lie. It’s why the UK is in the EU. Ok it was 70 something but 80 per cent to the nearest 10 per cent. Please check facts before you dare to post on this world wide website. @Sicarium

Ok. I just checked. It was 67 per cent and 1975. A lot of people who want to leave now after voting to stay. Why do your changing circumstances are important. You made your choice. Let us make our choice. I am European first, UK second, Welsh third. We stand together. @LiliMountainGirl

@LiliMountainGirl Why Welsh third?
LiliMountainGirl · 22-25, F
Because I believe in the UK. For now. @thatscottishguy

Yes, it is.

That's not how elections work. That's not even how math works. What's more, it's absurd for you sit here and try to tell me that the results of an election 40+ years ago is absolute for all time while at the exact same time you're saying that an election result from 2 1/2 years ago doesn't count.

We stand together.

Well, except for the 17,410,742 who voted to leave in 2016. You don't stand with them. Hell, you don't want their voices heard. You're not concerned with democracy, you just want to get your way. Which is exactly why I won't trust you, like I originally said.

@LiliMountainGirl Don't get why anyone would but fair enough 👍.

And how many voted to stay in 1975? Why is that just discarded. If so will 2016 be discarded as irrelevant when your generation has died. @Sicarium

@LiliMountainGirl
And how many voted to stay in 1975?

It doesn't matter. That's not how elections work. You don't weigh the results of election A against election B to figure it out. Elections stand independent of one another. How is this something you don't understand?

Why is that just discarded. If so will 2016 be discarded as irrelevant when your generation has died.

It's discarded because it was 1975. There was another referendum. It was discarded for the exact same reason you want yet another referendum. You're playing (I hope) dumb, but you'd be perfectly happy to discard the results of 2016. You are whining about something that doesn't matter and something you would repeat given the opportunity.

So what is wronging with the people now? Because you are scared? @Sicarium
