Is it bad juju to repurpose an old table?

The price of wood these days is ridiculous, especially if you want nice wood, real wood, not plywood like oak or hardwood.
I see people selling solid oak tables for $20 or sometimes giving them away.
Cut them up and re-purpose, but will the gods of wood and tables and old craftsman ghosts haunt me forever after?
Kind of feels shameful to take a piece of finished wood and cut it up. lol.

Not everyone has space for a large oak table in their home. If you can save it from goimg into landfill, I think the tree spirits will look favourably on you whatever you use the wood for.

My brother-in-law made a bed for my younger daughter out of an ash desk that was not being used. He loves working with wood.

Surely if it is being sold for 20 USD then if you don't buy it and repurpose it then the most likely next even in it's life is being discarded to the municipal rubbish dump.

I understand the reluctance to cut into something good, not just wood but lots of other things too, I suffer badly from that. But if it is otherwise useless then surely the dryads would approve of it being turned into something that fulfils a new purpose.

So I'm urging you to do what I find difficult to do myself! :-)

I feel your point. Real things of every sort...are becoming endangered today!

It is a great shame, but if the only alternative is that the table will be totally broken up and the wood thrown away, then perhaps it is better that the material is used to make other things.

I'd say it depends on a given table
It's less wasteful than taking it to the dump.

@HootyTheNightOwl Unless your local dump has its own re-selling facility. Mine does, for inert items like furniture. It can't re-sell or give away electrical items.
