Living in North Carolina, I have seen the effects of many hurricanes, but nothing quite like this........ near Asheville.

I can't believe the flooding and devastation, especially so far inland. Hardly anyone there will have flood insurance. More than 1000 people are missing.

@BizSuitStacy estimates/measurements vary; but over the course of three days, we got between 20-30 inches of rain
@wildbill83 Incredible. One of my college roommates and his wife live near Boone. We haven't heard from them since this happened.
@BizSuitStacy I graduated from App State. i go back as much as possible. when the rain comes like that, everything in the valley and near the rivers and creeks are pretty much fu&%$#, everything from Asheville to Boone is a wreck.
@MayorOfCrushtown Nice! I'm an NC State alum, but moved west for work in the late 90s. I usually visit friends in the Carolinas once or twice a year.

@MayorOfCrushtown king street in Boone had 6" of water, many of the businesses/restaurants on lower streets were flooded/are closed down now for damage. ASU dorms flooded, one of campus buildings sank a bit due to weakening of ground
@wildbill83 yep the videos I seen, king st looked like a river. And river st, lived up to its name. The whole campus is one hill after the other. Everything at the bottom was probably under water. I’m sure it will be awhile before everything goes back to normal. I heard the blue ridge parkway is gonna be closed off for awhile too.
