you're right. calif regulations reduced air pollution, which is a triumph that is often ignored. libertarians did not solve this problem with market forces, but regulations did. the climate nay-sayers are claiming that any attempt to regulate carbon emissions is communism. what they will never ever admit is that liberty can be exercised by the people to enact regulations for the benefit of the group/society/humanity. social programs are an outcome of individual liberty. the national defense is one example of a social program that is not controversial. what makes a social program controversial is not its success or failure, but, who it will benefit.
