Nope.. But it will bring about food shortages quicker..

SW-User
@Adstar Why? We don't need beef.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@SW-User We do need beef along with lamb goat and other domesticated animals.. Because much of the agricultural lands are not good enough to plant with crops.. But there is a lot more land acceptable for grazing animals.. Once you eliminate all this meat production you will not increase the level of plant food production to cover the loss of the meat production.. Also to increase plant food production on some of the semi - acceptable land vacated by the cows you will need larger inputs of fertilizer and water which is expensive.. fertilizer production is a big cause of the production of the supposed global warming gasses.. And we already have large areas of the earth where water scarcity is leading to conflicts..

@Adstar I live in the UK; approximately 20% of the UK's land is given over to agriculture. All the agricultural land in the world produces more than enough food to feed the world many times over. However, over 50% of the Uk's land area is given over to pasture; grazing for sheep, goats, and cows. Any extra land needed we can use by regenerating the soil. No need for fertilizer.
50% of land to provide less than 20% of our daily calorie intake. See the problem here?

@SW-User Your view on the need for fertilizer is wrong.. After years of crop husbandry which has increased plants ability to extract nutrients from soil ( thus increasing crop tonnage per acre) leads to soils becoming depleted far quicker then in the past.. No one has developed ways to keep the productivity of the land high enough when subject to modern intense cropping methods other then adding fertilizer.. Yes you can let fields lie fallow for a few years and fertility will naturally increase back to an acceptable level,, But taking large areas out of production for years reduces crop production thus increasing shortages..
Also most of the worlds grazing lands are far poorer in quality / rain fall then what you have in the UK.. But huge areas are grazed by herds in this world.. lands that are not suitable for crop production..

@SW-User the UK is not exactly a huge exporter. Have you followed what has been going on with the Dutch farmers ?
revenant · F
@SW-User I am now living in France. Why on earth do we now have to buy shrimps from Argentina whilst they are killing sailors in Britanny and Normandy.....

SW-User
@revenant Really, They are killing sailors? Prove it

SW-User
@revenant What's going on with the Dutch farmers is irrelevant.
revenant · F
@SW-User good lord

SW-User
@revenant Exactly. You realise you agree. The Dutch farmers are completely irrelevant.
