Tackling a big cause of climate change
California has certified the use of a new seaweed food supplement for dairy cows that cuts the amount of methane burped by dairy cows in half. The seaweed supplement is produced on the big island of Hawaii and is certified for both regular and organic dairy products produced by the cows.

California dairies already had been turning to containing and using the methane produced from the other ends of the cows to provide the electrical power for the farms. Methane from cattle is considered one of the major contributors to climate change. Unfortunately, beef cattle tend to be raised on more of a free range basis until time to be fattened up for market so it is going to be harder to enlist hamburgers into the war on climate change.
My mother used to use dried cow flops for the wood stove -- for cooking as well as heating -- during the day until just before my father came home, then switching to wood because my father didn't like the odor of the cow chips burning. I wish my cowboy father were still around to hear his opine of these recent developments. On second thought, probably not, although some of his rants could match his idol Archie on the humorous scale, but then I would have to try and keep a straight face.
