I Am Concerned About Climate Change

I read an article this morning in The New Yorker that suggests that, while it’s still theoretically possible to avert climate change apocalypse, the emphasis is on theoretically. It would basically require all the doubters to immediately have an epiphany and pressure their governments to implement draconian conservation measures, completely unrealistic. So we just need to accept that if you’re younger than 60 there’s a good chance you will see the climate rise 2 degrees Celsius and, because natural disasters will be so commonplace and out of control, civilization as we know it will cease to exist, and if you’re younger than 30 that outcome is all but certain in your lifetime.

So I’m just wondering what all the climate change deniers and their heirs will say then. I mean I guess it will still somehow be progressives’ fault?

Nah, if you really cared about global warming, you'd be trying to convince people and find real solutions instead of virtue signalling pointlessly, spreading the same apocalyptic cult threats we've been hearing for 30 years now, and dismissing people as "climate deniers." You don't view global warming as something to be fixed, you view it as a moral issue you can use to establish your moral virtue.

@Sicarium I have tried to convince people, and don’t we already more or less know what the solutions would be? Quit using fossil fuels and sending more carbon and smoke into the air. Develop cleaner energy sources instead.

And this isn’t a threat, I’m merely reflecting on an article from The New Yorker that is urging those that accept the truth of man-made climate change to also accept that it’s now, and probably has been for about three decades, too late to avert the apocalypse. It’s not a “send all your money to Gore or else!” No, it’s going to happen regardless of what you or even all those who accept climate change do.

I’m just idly wondering how today’s deniers are going to rationalize their beliefs and behavior when the apocalypse inevitably comes. I know they’re not going to be ashamed and admit that they were wrong, that’s just not human nature. I’m trying to imagine how progressives are actually going to be to blame for it.

@JP1119
I have tried to convince people
I doubt it.
don’t we already more or less know what the solutions would be
Yup. Nuclear, to hold us over until fusion comes online, and solar shades. Oh, wait, you didn't mention those. Because those are actual solutions to long term climate control and don't require massive government intervention or destroying 60% of the world's economy pointlessly while handing the rest to China and India and condemning everyone else in the world to pre-industrial poverty.
Quit using fossil fuels and sending more carbon and smoke into the air. Develop cleaner energy sources instead.
Get off your phone or computer then. They're made from those fossil fuels and the factories emit carbon dioxide. Stop being a hypocrite. And stop saying "carbon" like an uneducated dolt. Carbon is an element.
And this isn’t a threat
You missed the point.
probably has been for about three decades, too late to avert the apocalypse
Then there's no reason to do anything. Cool story.
I’m just idly wondering how today’s deniers are going to rationalize their beliefs and behavior when the apocalypse inevitably comes.
Considering the apocalypse has already come and gone a few times, they'll probably be fine. But have fun with your cult.
I know they’re not going to be ashamed and admit that they were wrong, that’s just not human nature. I’m trying to imagine how progressives are actually going to be to blame for it.
"Shame...shame...shame. Shame the disbelievers and infidels." But, nah, this isn't just an excuse to establish some pretend moral virtue. Not at all. That was sarcasm.

Like I said, you don't care about climate change or global warming. You just need to be superior to the "deniers".

I’m not scared of government intervention, I actually favor a robust government that protects and empowers its people.
Get off your phone or computer then.
The problem is systemic. It’s not going to be solved by me not using electricity, it would, theoretically, be solved by us finding and converting to cleaner (preferably safe) sources of energy.
Then there’s no reason to do anything.
You’re probably one of those people, aren’t you, who believe the only reason people ever behave morally is because they’re terrified of burning in hell for the rest of eternity?
You just need to be superior to the “deniers”.
Do you feel inferior to the acceptors?

@JP1119
I’m not scared of government intervention, I actually favor a robust government that protects and empowers its people.
That's an oxymoron.
The problem is systemic. It’s not going to be solved by me not using electricity, it would, theoretically, be solved by us finding and converting to cleaner (preferably safe) sources of energy.
Translation: "It's OK when I do it."
You’re probably one of those people, aren’t you, who believe the only reason people ever behave morally is because they’re terrified of burning in hell for the rest of eternity?
Lol, OK, fringe weirdo cultist. If that makes you feel better, go for it.
Do you feel inferior to the acceptors?
"Join the cult, become an 'acceptor', that is your salvation."

See? Instead of discussing the actual issue, or even putting any effort into it beyond regurgitated talking points, you're obsessed with superiority and inferiority. I rest my case. But bonus points for completely avoiding any substantive statements on the topic. Good job. Really.

Turning off notifications now, I've wasted enough brain cells on your pointless bullshit.

@Sicarium It’s not an oxymoron, just because you vote for candidates who say government can’t work, and then when they’re elected they work to make government not work, it doesn’t follow that government can’t work when people believe in it.

I’m sorry you’re too stupid to comprehend how systems work.
Lol, OK, fringe weirdo cultist. If that makes you feel better go for it.
I mean that would be logically coherent. Same principle, our future is already determined so we might as well sin to our hearts’ delight.

Get over yourself, it’s not all about you. I commend you, oh superior one, for discussing the issue in so much depth and coming up with novel solutions beyond regurgitated talking points.

I’m tempted to delete all your cynical, substance-free insults and then block your sorry ass.
