Seven top oil firms downgrade their assets by nearly $90 billion in 9 months

Good! This shows that even the oil companies are taking climate and the shift to renewable energy seriously. I now hope that every one of their workers will eventually be retrained in renewable energy industries🌎️

Really, you don't think this has to do with the global economic crisis brought on by Covid-19? When airlines stop flying, people being quarantined and not travelling, cruise ships tied up in port; doesn't that cut the usage and there no ;longer is a need to produce?
Nothing wrong with renewable energy, just consider how far you can go without oil and nat. gas..
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@TeirdalinFirefall The technology is amazing!! With that being said, the coal plants here have now moved to natural gas as the primary heat source in the boilers.
SW-User
@Quimliqer We’ll see how many of those plants actually get built. Regardless, China is the biggest investor in renewable energy sources By Far in the world. Yes, I think the environment crosses their mind frequently because they really do not want a restless population.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@SW-User They May invest in renewable energy, but the population outgrows the ability for solar or wind. As for the population, they don’t care as the threat is greater than the voice.

It is something that is going to happen anyway one day. After hitting peak oil the math won't work. As the world gets more industrialized daily and the supply becomes shorter daily it will happen. The only questions are when that is and is it because of supply and demand or government regulations, in either case one or the other will happen and we will switch over.
SW-User
@Subsumedpat It's already making financial sense. Solar and offshore wind is already cheaper than fossil fuels. It's just that governments that have clear vested interests in keeping fossil fuel companies afloat are dragging their feet. They will, however, bow to the inevitable because change is happening far faster than even the most progressive estimates predicted.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@SW-User Right now I spend about 1,200 a year on electricity, it will cost me around 20,000 to go solar with a lifespan of around 30 years which works out to about 600-700 a year depending on how long they last so you are right it is cheaper. But 20K is still a lot of money.
SW-User
@Subsumedpat I know. It's still a lot of money to install them privately.

This stuff kills newborn cows
It kills fish
it kills everything
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
On that note, what somebody else said about electric plains is a good point. I don't think we're going to be able to fully move out of oil any time soon, but I think definitely a good start would be to have more nuclear power plants and to replace all residential vehicles with electric. I actually have all my stocks on a company that is bringing hybrid electric semi trucks soon.
SW-User
@TeirdalinFirefall I'll tell you what would be a good start: All new cars should be hybrids at least. If nothing more, it will massively cut air pollution in cities as cars often don't go above 30 mph in cities.
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
@SW-User That's true.
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
I'm glad I took my stocks out of oil.
revenant · F
You prefer those atrocities on the landscape ?
SW-User
@revenant I know you didn't. I was taking a guess based on your previous posts. Please explain to us mere mortals what you're talking about.
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
@SW-User I live in Oregon and half my family including my sister and her family is in Portland, and right now I wish Trump had a private militia in Portland to do something about those psychos causing chaos. Right now I feel like the local governments and media have basically abandoned us over here in Oregon for political reasons. It's, really not like what the mainstream media is making it out to be. The police are quitting, the federal troops are just sitting in their building, and the mayor is saying everything is fine and that they don't need any help.
SW-User
@TeirdalinFirefall I'm so sorry to hear that :( Violence is unacceptable in any situation.
revenant · F
Horrible !! it is so fake and you do not even know it.
What a plight to the landscape !
1 out of 3 do not work
it is pure bullshit
it is destroying the whole environment
SW-User
@revenant OK I think it's best I ignore you because you are clearly deranged.
revenant · F
@SW-User yes better call me deranged my dear
revenant · F
What more horrible ? landscape is so ruined !! I was so dismayed ! those huge idiotic things !
SW-User
@revenant Once again, what are these "huge idiotic things" you're talking about?
revenant · F
@SW-User tell what is your question is about then and be clear
revenant · F
Nothing disgusts more !
