Woken up by an earth tremor

2.02am Saturday 3/10/2026.
House was shaking very gently. Items were swaying.
Only lasted 5 - 10 seconds
Only my second earth tremor I have experienced.
The first one was sometime in the late 60s/early 70s in Tasmania.
Woken up then with the house shaking, that one went for a little longer.

What did it measure on the Ricter scale?
Gusman · 61-69, M
@meggie Apparently 4.7 at Korumburra. Which is about 120kms SE of where I am in Melbourne.
My experience here was 2 - 2.9 strength.

It's hard to tell sometimes if it's a small earthquake or something else here.

Of course the bigger ones there's no doubt. Usually above 4.0.

I'm currently right on top of the San Andreas fault. Quite literally.
Maybe it was just a world-record drop bear?
That’s got to be unsettling. So glad it went away.

I’ve never experienced that, or never noticed.

@Mamapolo2016 Stange feeling the house gently shaking. Seeing things swaying. I have a Japanese indoor ceremonial chime in my bedroom. The chimes were swaying enough to produce sound by hitting each other.
