@Samu01 Exactly, hence panic is not warranted.

@Samu01
If you are one of those awful people crying about migrants
What if I'm one of those awful people crying about illegal immigrants, drug traffickers and human traffickers?

Here are some nice looking migrants caught coming across at night.
Want to give them sanctuary?

It's been happening since the begining of time.
Lot's of things involved before we were even here.
cotheo · 56-60, M
may be its a wrong view at it.
if you look at burning forests, increased desertification, heavy rain events in small locations, overheated cities, groundwater declines, we should think, about changing our lifestyles.
Or we may live or life as before and future will let feel us and the following generations that we do wrong.

@cotheo we just lost 39 people in fires in Hawaii!

Of course this number will go much higher, sadly. Nevertheless, panic about climate change will not work. It is currently damaging the psyche of many children. That was my point.
This is only telling half the story. The number of deaths has been decreasing, but the number of disasters has been increasing.

https://www.npr.org/2022/07/17/1111912885/as-weather-disasters-increase-deaths-from-them-have-actually-fallen
RASCOE: So how can this be? Like, how can the number of deaths be falling even though we hear the news, we see the disasters? You know, seas are rising, summers are hotter, hurricanes seem to be getting stronger. So how is it possible that deaths can be down?

IRFAN: Well, there are two main factors here. One is better forecasting - basically being able to get ahead of these disasters and then hopefully being able to get people out of harm's way. So that's really prominent with things like hurricanes and heat waves. We can actually see those things days in advance. The other side of the equation is how well we can cope with things like storms, fires and heat waves when they do occur. So we have better tools - things like sea walls. We have better building codes. We have firefighting teams that can get people out of fire zones. And so between those two aspects - you know, the better forecasting and the better tools - we've been able to avert a lot of deaths, even though the global population has grown about fourfold since the start of the 20th century.
Nope. You will definitely smirk the whole way to planetary death. Keep that military running, because its going to emit the carbon emissions you need to get this over with.

@Roundandroundwego Sure, let Xi and Putin take over. It's not like they pollute. 😂
@irishmolly72 excuses from the biggest emitter.
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@Roundandroundwego China and India are the biggest polluters these days. As an added bonus, we're not genocidal like China or war criminals like Russia.

Jus' sayin' 🥴

Better call Algore too.
Note when it ends?

If you've paid attention this summer, we've had record heat here in the US, in Europe...
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@SomeMichGuy Sample size N=1
@irishmolly72 No, record heat had been in a huge number of places on land throughout large parts of the temperate Northern Hemisphere and in the waters around FL, Antarctica (where ice formation is off by an amount the size of AK).

But talking science with you...smh
Do you realize what other factors go into such a calculation?

Like thousands of people dying in the 1900 Galveston hurricane versus relatively few people dying due to hurricanes today? What could account for those differences? Would you actually say that hurricanes today are just weaker? Or could it have anything to do with better forecasting and severe weather alerting tools today, giving people time to get out of the path of hurricanes?

You people bend over backwards to be dumb, what an aspiration to have 🙄🤦‍♀️
