Can someone please explain when and/or why going to the movies costs so bloody much these days?

I took my wife out to aee a movie tonight and including a large popcorn and a large soda we shared the grand total came to over $70!?! What rhe hell?!? When i was in my teens the same outing would cost at most $20 and if you went on cheap night less than $10

I don't see how teens date these days, other than to "hang out" with each other. It was nice in the dark ages when I spent 50 cents for gas, $2.50 for the movie, including popcorn and drinks, and another dollar or so for French Fries at the local teen hangout after the show. Our dates were 5 bucks or less.

I used to work for a movie theater. The cinema only makes 5% on a new movie and 10% after it has been out a month or more. The rest of the profit goes to the movie company. Ticket prices are higher so the cinema itself can make a little more. They have to sell over priced candy to make a profit. Sucks but that is the way it is.
